We Have A Winner! The 2014 TCM Calendar Contest

Today, I received a pleasant surprise in my email inbox from Angela White at Truck Camper Magazine. One of the three photographs I entered (Entry #120 on the docket) was one of the 13 contest winners for the 2014 Truck Camper Magazine Calendar Contest! I have to say, this was a bit of a shock. With a total of 386 photos entered in this year's contest, and with so many terrific entries, I didn't think I had much of a chance to be selected. Especially in light of the fact this was my third try, the previous two years my photographs failed to even receive an honorable mention.

The winning photograph was taken in late May 2013 at one of my all-time favorite locations in the great state of Utah--the Valley of the Gods. The valley is located on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management, so boondocking is permitted at designed locations. My wife and I took hundreds of photos during our two-day visit of the valley but this one particular shot of our campsite was taken a few hours before sunset during our first day.

Located on the western side of the valley, the location of our campsite was pretty spectacular. We were nestled between three massive buttes affectionately known as General de Gualle and his Troops, Santa and Rudolph, and the one shown in the pic, the Castle. We were pretty much alone in the entire valley, only one other RV, a Class B conversion van, was camped for the night.

The photo was taken in a large wash at the end of one of our hikes as we approached our campsite from the west. The combination of the sunlit butte and the blackened mesquite tree caught my eye and was a photo I couldn't pass up. I'm just glad I had my iPhone on me to take the picture.

Vote in the 2014 Truck Camper Magazine Calendar Contest!

Today, Truck Camper Magazine announced the start of the 2014 Truck Camper Magazine Calendar Contest. This is a fun and very competitive online contest held each Fall by Gordon and Angela White of Truck Camper Magazine. I enjoy this contest not only because of the wonderful photographs, but also to see where our fellow truck camper enthusiasts have recently traveled. In this year's contest you'll see truck camper photographs taken in Europe, Australia, and North and South America. Pretty cool!

I have many friends who have entered photographs this year, which makes this year's contest extra special. And for the first time ever other Wolf Creek camper owners have entered photographs of their campers including a 2014 model with the new and improved exterior graphics.

This contest has nearly 400 entries, but only 13 will be included in the calender. Unfortunately, you can vote for only five. For those who are curious, I entered three photographs in this year's contest. They are included here and appear on the official voting docket as entries 119, 120, and 121. Entries 119 and 120 were taken at the Valley of the Gods in Southern Utah, while entry 121 was taken at Kodachrome Basin State Park also in Southern Utah.  All three photographs were taken in late May 2013 with my iPhone 5 using the HD setting.

The contest only lasts for six days, so if you haven't done so already, please vote. It doesn't matter if you own a truck camper or not. If you enjoy RVs and travel, then you'll enjoy looking at the photographs and voting.

#119, Valley of the Gods, UT, near Santa and Rudolph Butte.
#120, Valley of the Gods, UT, near Castle Butte.
